Event at Colonial United Church of Christ in Prairie Village
Press Release:
Colonial UCC Church in Prairie Village (7039 Mission Rd.) will host a viewing of the documentary, "Call Me Malcom" on Feb. 8th at 11:15 following the 10:00 worship service. The event, which will be in the social hall, will feature the documentary of Malcolm’s journey of discovery that offers a glimpse into the lives of real people who are transgendered. Malcom, a United Church of Christ minister, tells his story and travels across the US visiting with people with various perspectives about identity, faith, and love. The shame and fear associated with transgender is overcome by grace, compassion, and knowledge. Soup and pizza will be served; free will offering for the lunch. Child care provided. Here's some info about George Turner who will be the presenter at our general meeting for July.
For over fifteen years, George has been helping people work through the challenges of life, improve their professional performance, and increase the quality of their life. Clients have described George as a ʽphenomenal life coach and stimulating guideʼ.. A graduate of the University of Kansas , George is a licensed clinician in both Kansas and Missouri . In addition, he is a certified sex therapist having received post-graduate, advanced clinical training in sex therapy. Currently George is finishing his doctorate at Widener University studying human sexuality education and therapy. George approaches therapy from a differentiation, cognitive-behavioral based theory that collaborates with the clientʼs own strengths and gifts to facilitate healing. He is the owner of Turner Professional Group, a collection of leading therapist, trainers and consultants designing personal and professional growth for you, including the popular Dating By Design series offering simple, sexy and spicy dating strategies. Vigil in Remembrance of Lawrence King
A Call for Healing
On Tuesday February 12, 2008, Lawrence King, fifteen years old, was shot in the computer lab of his school. On February 14, 2008, his name was added to the countless victims of hate and violence against sexual orientation and gender identity. Please join us to remember not only Lawrence and his freedom of expression, but all victims of LGBT hate and violence and those whose hearts continue to hold on to this hatred in a call for healing and safety for everyone.
Heartland Men’s Chorus
Heartland Men’s Chorus has volunteered to sing in memory of Lawrence and in support of opening our hearts to prevent such violence and hatred from allowing any more tragedy.
Mid-America Freedom Band
Taps will be performed by XY, Trumpet in memory of Lawrence King.

Kansas City Women’s Chorus has volunteered to sing in memory of Lawrence and in support of opening our hearts to prevent such violence and hatred from allowing any more tragedy.

Marcia, co-pastor of Broadway Church who has opened its doors for this event, will speak a few words in Lawrence’s memory.

All donations will go to the Kansas City Anti-Violence Project to help provide awareness of LGBT domestic violence and provide support for persons who have experienced LGBT domestic violence.
